UK: Stoke, Liverpool and Edinburgh the best cities to profit as a student landlord

Landlords in Stoke-on-Trent typically achieve annual yields of 9.43%, making it the most profitable area to be a buy-to-let landlord. Average house prices come to just under £147,000 in Stoke, while rental incomes in the city come to £13,900. Students studying at Stafford and Keele universities mean there’s strong tenant demand. Student postcodes in Liverpool achieved the second highest yields at 8.93%, followed by Edinburgh with yields of 8.23%.

UK, London: Green light for Regal’s 294-home student-led scheme in Camden

Camden Council has unanimously approved Regal’s student accommodation-led residential development next to the iconic Roundhouse music venue in north London. The redevelopment of 100 Chalk Farm Road will see four new blocks varying in height from 6 to 12 storeys built on the 0.3ha site opposite the Grade-II listed venue. In all, 264 student bedrooms, 30 affordable homes and nearly 11,000 sq ft of ground floor commercial space will be delivered as part of the scheme, which was designed in collaboration with DSDHA.

UK, Nottingham: Developer puts major Nottingham site on the market for £3.9 million

Spain: A new housing plan arrives to add 2,200 affordable rental apartments in Madrid

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, presented this morning the Suma Vivienda Plan, which will allow the construction of more than 2,200 homes for affordable rent in the new urban developments of Los Ahijones and Los Berrocales, in the Vicálvaro district. Almeida has announced the publication by the Municipal Housing and Land Company of Madrid (EMVS Madrid), of the specifications to tender the first phase of the plan, with 27 plots to build and manage, through public-private collaboration, more than 1,600 affordable rental public housing.

Spain: Sánchez stops the market launch of 4,000 social flats by challenging Prohens' housing decree

The Balearic Executive and the central government have constituted a bilateral commission to resolve the discrepancies raised after Pedro Sánchez's challenge to the housing decree of the Government of Marga Prohens, filing a notice of constitutionality against several aspects of the rule, which among other issues, puts in check the construction of 4,000 social flats in the Balearic Islands. It also affects the viability of the Build to Rent (BTR) program, of transfer of public land to the private initiative for the construction of protective housing (VPO) and in collaboration with the municipalities.
