Canada, Vancouver: UBC adds another 282 beds with new student residence

The University of British Columbia has added another 282 beds to its Vancouver campus thanks to a new student residence building. Brock South formally opened its doors to students earlier this summer. The building is already 100-per-cent occupied.

Canada, Kitchener: Conestoga College allocates $500 Million-plus for campus upgrades

Conestoga College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning has invested more than $500 million into its facilities, student housing and academic programming. This includes $100 million-plus for upgrades to the Waterloo campus, enhancing student support services, creating a wellness centre, and adding over 150,000 square feet of learning space. In Cambridge, nearly $300 million will be directed to the Skilled Trades Campus, which will be the largest trades training facility in Canada, offering workshops, classrooms and labs to support the development of highly skilled trades professionals.

US, Charlotte: Investor Team Obtains $77 Million for UNC Charlotte Student Housing Property

SR Real Estate Partners and Circle Squared Alternative Investments procured $77 million for the refinancing of Junction 49, a new 754-bed student housing community located at 7600 University City Blvd. in Charlotte. The loan was provided by Macquarie Capital Principal Finance.

Spain: BlackRock and Grupo Lar partner on € 400 MLN Madrid luxury development

Global asset manager BlackRock has teamed up with Spanish real estate developer Grupo Lar on a high-end residential project in Madrid. The project involves converting the former tax office of the Ministry of Finance in the Salamanca district into 153 luxury apartments and a student residence with 400 beds. The development, valued at € 400 MLN, is expected to be completed by 2027.

Australia: Construction begins on Coronation Property’s $420 MLN Build-to-Rent (BTR) project in inner west Sydney

A sod turning ceremony officially kicked off construction on Coronation Property’s $420 MLN masterplanned Build-to-Rent (BTR) community in St Peters in inner west Sydney. Precinct 75, located on the former industrial site at 67 & 73-83 Mary Street, will be reimagined into a new lifestyle destination for the suburb, featuring more than 200 premium BTR homes. Designed by Cox Architecture, the development will integrate with the creative vibrancy of Sydney’s inner west to deliver more accessible homes with liveability in mind.

UK: Plans for 21-storey tower block in Stevenage

A developer wants to demolish New Look in Stevenage town centre and replace it with a 21-storey tower block including 225 "build-to-rent" (BTR) flats. Reap 1 Limited said the proposed 69m-tall development would be "car-free", with cycle parking spaces provided for residents. Subject to planning permission, they hope to begin demolition in May 2025, with the new development completed by November 2028. A full planning application is yet to be submitted, but Reap 1 have applied for a Screening Opinion Request to determine whether an Environmental Impact Assessment must be submitted as part of the full application.

UK: Plan for nearly 500 homes in Coventry could take step forward

Plans for almost 500 homes on old green belt land in Coventry could get the final go-ahead soon. Details of the development on fields at Eastern Green were sent to the council this week. If agreed it would be the second stage of the huge 'Pickford Gate' housing scheme. The 142 acre site will ultimately have 2,400 homes, new shops and a school under outlined plans agreed in 2021.

Belgium, Hoboken: €36 million for a new care site in Stuivenbergwijk: a residential care center with 120 rooms and 70 nursing homes

Opposite the Schoonselhof green zone, on Krijgsbaan in Hoboken, Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen will soon start construction on a new site. There will be seventy assisted living homes, a service center and a 120-room residential care center. The city permit has been issued and Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen will start the preparation work from the end of August. An information moment with local residents will be provided. Completion of the works is planned for the spring of 2020.

Canada, Vancouver: Vancouver has shortage of 300-plus long-term care beds, 90 assisted living units

In a city where the fastest growing age demographic is seniors, Vancouver will have a shortage of more than 300 subsidized long-term care beds and 90 assisted living units in 2025. That information was supplied by Vancouver Coastal Health to City of Vancouver staff to assist them in the development of the city’s first-ever seniors’ housing strategy, which council approved in July.

Approval of the spatial plan of Akkerwinde III. This means that the arrival of almost a hundred new houses has the green light. These are 97 homes for beginners, young families and seniors who want to continue living in Schaijk. Terraced houses are being built, semi-detached houses, senior housing and family houses alternate.
