According to Languages Canada, the last two years have been among the most difficult ever for members. The association’s advocacy efforts with governments across all jurisdictions have proven more important than ever, particularly those with the federal government. Some of these endeavors have been supported by data provided by BONARD.
In order to provide the latest global and Canadian figures and trends in language education, Samuel Vetrak, BONARD’s CEO, was invited to present at Languages Canada’s annual session.
- 17% of all ELT students chose Canada in 2020, representing a 5% increase over 2019, and 19% of student weeks globally were spent in Canada in 2020, a 2.5% increase over 2019.
- Despite this, the number of student weeks in Canada between 2019 and 2020 saw a 58% decrease, a clear revelation of the impact of Covid-19 on the industry while Canada’s borders were closed and provincial restrictions were imposed on in-person classes. Within this scenario, 59% of classes were delivered online.
